Wowie (Maui, Hawaii)

STOP 2: Trying for something a little different in MAUI

Maui was definitely my favorite island.  Between meeting locals, getting caught in a torrential down pour driving a scooter inches from the side of the road (aka mountain), to stumbling onto delicious restaurants sans Yelp, and staying on one of the most beautiful resorts I’ve seen, it was definitely a great part of the trip.

Here are some of those highlights…

Sunset at KAM III

A cute little park to enjoy sunset – you’ll meet tourists and locals there alike.  There’s plenty of charcoal grills out there and park benches.

The Triangle (South Maui)

This is a small shopping center with a bunch of little dive bars – you’ll find some tourists, but a lot of locals are here, too.

Little Beach – Makena State Park

Upon asking a couple uber drivers where locals hang out, a common response was “Check out Little Beach”.   Basically seemed like a normal beach for the most part — we kept seeing people hike up the rocks to the other side, and decided to see for ourselves.  Yup, definitely a nude beach.  Back to the other side of the rocks we went…

Nudes to the back

Sunset on top of the rocks was gorgeous though.

The Grand fucking Wailea

I decided to go big on the hotel because it was partially an anniversary gift.  You practically could land on the island, and never leave this hotel.  The room service is actually bomb (spaghetti bolognese was so, so good that I forgot to take a photo of it).  The spa is massive.  There’s movie nights at the pool.  And there’s like 10 pools- which include a pool bar, multiple water slides, a rope swing, and a lazy river.  Although it may have been astronomically more fun if I were 10 years old, I think I enjoyed it just as much as the next kid there.

Cliff Diving – Black Rock

If you’re ready for some adventure and call yourself a good swimmer, check this place out!  We saw a bunch of sea turtles at this beach, too.

GOOD EATS

Last, but not least…let’s head to Big Island.
