We have all come across bucket lists before. I have mixed emotions about them for sure. On the one hand, they help motivate us to get off our asses and do things we often forget about because of that little thing called LIFE. On the other hand, they are sad reminders that there is just so much out there to see and do, and that most of us won’t even get a chance to scratch the surface. In any case, it’s important to have lofty goals. Maybe even more important to understand maybe not all goals are going to be met. There aren’t that many hours in a day; there aren’t that many days in a year; and frankly, there isn’t enough money to satisfy every goal.
A song by Pink Floyd (“Time”) helped inspired this list- we’re getting older and life isn’t going to wait around. I definitely don’t want to wake up one day and see opportunities pass me by.
And yeah, there are things on my list that I’ve already done. But that doesn’t make them any less significant to include on the list. It’s an aggressive list of items I think are important for me to have accomplished before the 3-0.
1. Live alone. You definitely learn a lot about yourself when you put yourself in a totally independent situation. It takes strength to live alone and is a wonderful experience I would definitely recommend.
2. Tailgate from morning to night. I’m usually the one that’s not there for a long time, but a good time for the short while. I want to take advantage of what energy I have left and tailgate ALL. DAY.
3. Ask for help. If you’re nearing your thirties, you should have a decent network of people you can rely on, or know where to look. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from those people- be it advice, to help you move, a shoulder to cry on.
4. Experience your dream job. I can kind of cross this off because I’ve been able to volunteer in less fortunate countries. I don’t think that’s my dream job, but I definitely love doing it.
5. Jump out of a plane.
6. Find inspiration. And use it for good.
7. Dance with no regret.
8. Backpack in a different country and stay in hostels. Take advantage of pub crawls and meeting new travel buddies.
9. Save a little. Though a fan of instant gratification, I know you have to save for rainy days.
10. Let yourself fall in love without fear of getting hurt.
11. Go to Coachella.
12. Practice self-awareness. Know yourself or ask for feedback- self-awareness is powerful, but an extremely difficult thing to master (especially before 30). So start practicing early! Take the time to reflect on you- the type of person you are, the type of person you try to be, the person you are faking to others, etc.
13. Spend the entire weekend in your PJs– you’ll get away with this when you’re young and then when you’re much older.
14. Meet and actually get to know two new people a month– learn that it’s OK you won’t like everyone. Learn about the type of people you mesh well with and those you don’t.
15. Take the time to be good to your family
16. Volunteer.
17. Dress up in costumes.
18. Say no because it’s the right thing to do for you.
19. Learn to cook your mom’s best dishes. I can only make 2 of a million.
20. Learn how to make at least one amazing home-cooked meal. That’s the way to a man’s heart, right?
21. Wear moisturizer. Take care of your skin!
22. Travel, travel, travel.
23. Study Abroad. Bangalore, India.
24. Buy something expensive even though you can’t afford it now. I know this sounds absolutely irresponsible and I’m not suggesting that I want to buy a yacht. I just think a little reward to yourself for working hard is important. Just make sure you can afford it in the NEAR future 🙂
25. Own the perfect little black dress Or an outfit you can always rely on when you have nothing to wear.
26. A good exercise routine.
27. Find a fun outdoor hobby. I love ziplining and rappelling was super fun, but I don’t really think those would be actual hobbies I could do all the time in Orlando.
28. Date someone wrong for you. How are you going to know who’s the right one, if you haven’t met the wrong one?
29. Stay up all night and watch the sun rise.
30. Blog once a week. This is going to be tough. Especially since I can’t see myself promoting my blog or anything of the sort.
Now that I’ve shared my list, what are a few of your bucket list items?
