STOP 3: 10 hours in HILO
Big Island is much less inhabited – apparently mostly zoned for agriculture, and there’s two active volcanoes on the island. For that reason, we decided to only carve out 10 hours for Hilo, which is the largest town in Big Island, Hawaii. We chartered a plane from Maui, which took less than an hour.
Mount Kilauea
This is the youngest and most active Hawaiian volcano – on Big Island. We opted for a quicker tour, so we weren’t able to get too close to any lava, but was able to hike over the national park itself.
